Corolla gets awd for 2023

After the hybrid drivetrain, the 'Rolla now grabs the Prius' e-AWD setup (electric motor at the rear) to gain a low-speed awd setup. Hopefully the cable won't rust here.

Yeah, Toyota solving cablegate should be an important pre requisite to getting an AWD hybrid from them

Odd how they didn't have any trouble until the latest RAV. Never heard of any issue with this in any of the millions of other AWD hybrids they built

I'm fairly sure the new RAV4 Hybrid was the first instance of eAWD that Toyota developed.  Prior to that, I think it was a conventional AWD system combined with their hybrid system.

Highlander hybrid, Lexus RX hybrids have had the same approach for years, but the problem only surfaced on the current RAV4.

AWD ... and a tachometer  :skid:

I think it's going to be a highly desirable car in Canada, possibly with one of the lowest depreciation rates.

I'm sure it won't be that naff. The MK2 I had was hopeless in the snow. About time I'd say

As it would appear, the AWD rolla will use an improved version of Prius's AWD, now with a beefed up rear motor, with up to 40 hp output according to this reviewer:

IIRC the Prius's rear motor power was in single digits. This one is getting close to a proper AWD performance.

My local Toyota store is getting 120 new vehicles for the entirety of 2023. Most are already sold. It’s insane, he said he usually sells 350/year.

The only dealers that seemed to avoid this massive shortages were Ram/Jeep/Dodge and the Korean makes (tellurides were rare for a hot minute). My local Honda store has nine new vehicles for sale….nine! That’s it!

Nissan dealers seem to be fairly well stocked as well.

Yeah it's likely going to be another year or two before supply returns to normal.

It is crazy. What new vehicles you see on the road nowadays must have as much to do with availability as any brand preference
