^^ It will  be interesting  to see how this translates into fuel economy numbers. Especially compared to the F150 hybrid.

Toyota has previously said that the new hybrid in the Tundra was more about performance and less about fuel economy.  I think the term they used to describe their goal was "technical muscle".
I don't think that's what they should have done, if that's the case.  Toyota Hybrid's are known and sold based on fuel economy, not to add extra muscle.  The biggest complaint about the old Tundra wasn't that it was an old design, interior, etc, it was fuel economy (I'm talking about owner complaints, not reviewers or armchair critics).
Well the hybrid is the replacement for the top shelf V8, so I think the muscle part is valid. A bonus is it had better economy than the V8.

I still think more companies should use hybrid tech as a power adder.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

F-150 Hybrid owners are averaging 14.1 L/100km or 16.6 MPG. But that likely includes towing.

I've been driving the son's 2020 F150 Screw 4x4 with 2.7 / 3.73 gears more than he does and the lie o meter is stuck on 12.2 l/100km.  That's with running 15 mins on remote start twice a day.  Plus that's hauling a packed bed to the dump frequently.  Although, driving is 3/4s highway @ 100 km/h.

Went on Fuelly.com and they have the same unit @ 12.0 l/100km.  :o

I dunno, the hybrids solve the stop/start nonsense but so does a $100 by-pass cable.

My 2 cents is that the Ford or Tundra hybrids' primary purpose is not to save gas.  Particularly in the States where gasoline will never get tax obscene like in Canada.

If I where buying a F150, would I spring for the Hybrid version for $5K?  Definitely not over the 2.7 gasser.

If I was buying a Tundra and got stuck with the 3.5, ya, I'd insist on the hybrid version.  Doesn't apply to me at my stage in the life cycle, but if I was thinking of going the distance, then no I would not.  When this hybrid falls out of warranty (8 years), the cost will be epic.  Eventually some part of it will fail.

True.  And Toyota has said as much.

Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

And from what I read (from a guy who allegedly works at the plant) that a bad batch of wastegates are affecting ~1000 units.

Certainly a far cry from a Ford level of bad new product release.  :rofl2:  Isn't there a recall for 2022 F-150 already?

If Toyota has issues with their 3.5 turbo, they will fix it fast.  Not take 5 years and multiple versions like on the Ford unit.

Having said that, I would still not go Tundra.  The 2.7 TT, 373 gears, aluminum body, and the push button entry is too good, despite it being a Ford.  :)

Didn't Ford put the wrong engine in your car?

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...
