Buying my 3rd set of Pirelli P7's
« on: March 02, 2021, 05:54:32 pm »
Costco has $100 off Pirellis and I am going to get a set of CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS 2 for my Kia Forte. Size 215/45/r17. Come to about $795 installed and tax in after the $100 off. Seems to be the best price I can find.

Have bought the previous generation P7's for a 2005 Mazda 3 that I owned and my current 2011 BMW 328 (got rid of run-flats). Both those sets were 205/55/r16. Very quiet and smooth riding. Obviously very happy with these tires otherwise I would be nuts to buy a 3rd set.  ;D

The P7's were redesigned a bit in 2020. New tread design. This is designated by the Plus 2. I expect to get the new version but I will confirm that before I buy them.

I've had P7s on my Mazda3 and Sonata.  Excellent tires.

We run P7s as summers for the GS-350 and really like them.  Would have no reservations buying another set.

For those interested here is an article on the changes done to P7 in 2020.

Well a bit disappointed.  :-\

Went to Costco yesterday and found that the P7's on the floor were all labeled as CINTURATO P7 ALL SEASON PLUS 2. To me that should indicate it is the newly redesigned version. But every tire I saw still had old tread design. I checked manufacture dates on tries from a couple stacks and found them to be made between the 50th week of 2019 or and the 8th week 2020. So some tires are 14 months old.

My size 215/45/R17 has to be special ordered. The rep (who knew nothing about re-design details) said that if I order online they will be shipped directly from manufacturer. Will that mean I will get tires manufactured more recently with new design. Who knows???!!!

Not sure if I should let this bother me. After all I am happy with my tires of previous design on my BMW. But like anyone ... if I had a choice I would prefer the new and improved product.

Did they even change the tread design between the Plus and the Plus 2?  A google search seems to indicate they're the same.

From Tire Rack:

Quote
Compared to the previous-generation tire, Cinturato P7 All Season Plus II tires use an updated tread compound and internal construction with a focus on enhancing wet braking and traction.

No mention of tread design change.

It was this site that led me to believe the tread design has changed.

But I do notice that websites like Tire Rack still show the same tread design. Maybe I am all fracked up here.  :-\

I don't trust that site since what they are saying is the previous gen P7 looks nothing like it.

^^ Those aren’t the all-seasons. That article is about the P7 Cinturato summer tires.

Thanks. So I was all Fracked up.   :banghead:

Now I will move forward with order.

I will order closer to 14 March as my KIA is currently in storage till 05 April. We put it in storage because with COVID and nowhere to go and nothing to do we only needed one car and it was just in the way. Costco told me I have 30 days after tires arrive at store to do install.

Thanks for clearing up my confused state on tread design.

Well I got fracked on this deal. The rebate offer was good till 14 March. As I mentioned I was delaying doing order because my car is still in winter storage. Went to order online yesterday and now the Pirelli's are not even coming up as a option. I even did a search on another more popular size and nothing. Went to Costco store to see if they could make order for me. The rep called Pirelli who told them they are out of stock till mid-April. No rain check available.

Sent an e-mail to Pirelli to complain that offer should be honored. They forwarded my request to the Canadian Rebate Team. So we will see what comes of that.

Oh well..... :-\

Just an update.... Neither Costco or Pirelli  would help me in getting discount honored. You can get a rain check for a pound of butter at the grocery store but not for a tire sale.

Another update......16 March.... My whining seems to have worked. After saying they could not help me Pirelli turned around and located tires for me and are having them sent to Costco. The $100 off will be applied. I will be heading to Costco to confirm and pay for order. Paid for tires and will be installed on March 31st. Happy ending.

Great news and congrats!

I must say i was impressed the way Costco handles complaints.  The one time i filled out a complaint several years ago i got a call soon after from a senior manager who explained the situation for me in detail.  Not some hd lackey who gives canned answers and resorts to obfuscation.
