I for one, welcome our electron overlords.  I wonder if this will actually become law.  It's pretty ambitious.

If Trump gets his second term  I bet they will put off any legislation until 2024. Just to stop him overriding it on some pretext.

In 15 years this should be totally doable with passenger cars as the cost of their components will have dropped significantly. Electric trucks may require more time or incentives due to the battery size and cost. What this does is draw a roadmap for car makers and their dealers, the ones wishing to stay in business.

Well that's the hope certainly.

But it's not a certainty.

Also, California already had rolling blackouts...Not sure how they'll cope with additional stuff being on the grid.

They better fix that in the meantime.

Easy for California due to climate.  Don't care about the issue.  Past my time.

Cool! So now Californians will have to drive down to Nevada to buy a new ‘used’ car [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Stupid decision...will drive business and people away from the state.

Nonsense! There won't be anyone around there in 2035 to leave California.

People are already leaving.

Right, because there's no possible way for them to close such loopholes.

Honestly, I think electric for appliance and commuter cars (IE 90% of cars) is 100% where we should be going. Makes perfect sense.

I draw the line at sports cars. You can take ICE sports cars from my cold dead hands.

Well, if new cars aren't available with gas engines, you'll still have access to used cars.  Who knows.  In 30 years, a 2020 Corolla may be considered an enthusiast car, simply because it's got a gas engine that still runs.

So what offsets all these electric cars?  Coal?   ::)
Hmmm...nope..."in 2018, almost all the coal-fueled electricity generation consumed in the state was imported, and coal-fired generation from all sources provided less than 4% of California's power supply."

Darn...so much for that comment... :-\

I for one wouldn't mind a commuter electric.  If only I'd bought one...oh...15-20 yrs ago...oh wait... :P Maybe that new F150 Powerboost.  I do still have at least 13 yrs 'til I retire, assuming I make it to 65...so might still make sense to get an electric (c'mon MB! Where are those QC level rebates! Why don't you care about the planet!? Or more importantly, my pocketbook!?)...but the current cars are paid for...and gas is cheaper than a new car...and I don't need to drive into work, yet.  But the idea is certainly a nice one.  Maybe I could have a Corvette and a Bolt...or just say fack it you're almost dead, let the next generation worry about that shi#.

This week I'm in a 2020 Ioniq EV, and boy is it ever quiet - no whirring and clicking like others. Now try a direct-injected, emissions-programmed 2.0 bolted to a CVT instead and you wish for the smooth and powerful electric motor.

But I'm no SE and yes a properly tuned ICE with three pedals makes me feel alive. And yes, Lady M. is set up just like that  ;)
