Engine upgrade sounds very promising.  Sad to see the manual go but far from unexpected.

the 2.5T in the Sonata mates only with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

If the G70 can't have a manual at least the dual-clutch makes for a nice second choice.

oh well another manual sport sedan dies, not surprised
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

i'd prefer not to have a dual clutch, personally...jerky at crawl speeds and higher potential maintenance costs.

You driven this one? I know they are different from different manufacturers but after 10 years with one not a problem here. Maybe it is because I'm use to driving a manual that makes the difference. Saying that, when the Mrs drives the car is doesn't jerk for her either and she can't drive a manual. Maybe VW just knows how to do it right.  ;D

^^^  After 40+ years driving a manual  I never found the DSG jerky.  Nor did I complain about the cost of the 64000 km service for it.

When I was a lot younger and did work on my own cars I would have had no trouble doing that service. Just fiddly to get the oil level correct.

Which works out to about the same money as oil changes do over the same distance. At least in a VW.

the VW group has being doing them the longest, so i'd likely be OK with theirs...it seems most other mainstream brand's units aren't as smooth though.

You've never driven a Fiesta or Focus I see. I don't mind either, it feels like a manual at low speeds which I'm used to.

i'm wondering if it's a wet clutch/dry clutch issue...the VW units are hydraulic (wet)...the Ford (and i believe the Hyundai/Kia and many others) are electrically actuated (dry)...the advantage of the dry versions is you don't need a fluid change, but perhaps you lose the smoothness of operation.

On the Ford, you lose the entire transmission....

Funny.  About 10 minutes before reading your post I was watching a Youtube Vid on how to do the fluid change.   When I had my GTI there was exactly one oil available from VW, now there are three, the new ones are both Euro, Motul and Liqui-Moly.   Still costs over $150 even you do it your self.

Hyundai's is a wet clutch, like VW, so will be gooder than Ford's POS.  If not as good as VW's.  Maybe it'll be better.  Maybe it's exactly the same.

It says the manual MIGHT not make it...where's Patrick when you need him most!!!  Hopefully there's one of his mentor-ees on staff who will push to keep it.  Unfortunately I'll still never buy one (sad).   Not sure why everyone was bitching and moaning about 250 hp, it's probably not all bad, but 290 and 300+ torques?  Can't say I'd argue against that!  Might make it tougher to pick the V6. If I was in a position to pick anything at all.
