Run Flat Michelin x-ice xi3. Any issues?
« on: October 07, 2019, 02:51:15 am »
So after research on winter tires i settled on the michelin x-ice xi3 for my 2019 kia forte and am getting them through costco. I noticed they indicate having the run flat feature. After looking into this, i see people complaing about run flat tires, how its a harsher ride, hard to repair if needed and having to change out two tires if one is damaged etc. I personally don't care about the ride being a bit harsher but i dont want to have to spend extra money on repairs. Is run flat that much of a nuisance that i should cancel my order and look into alternatives?

I didn't know they made run flats. In either case, why not just buy the non-run flat tires.

I have run flat winter tires and haven't had any issues.  One reason that I liked the idea of having run flats during the winter months is because my Golf R doesn't come with a spare and having a flat in the winter time sucks as is.  I don't notice any extra harshness when compared to my summer tires.

I doubt Xi3 are run flat, what symbol are you referring to?

It's indicating that under specifications and when I checked the part number on other sites it says the same thing.

The only other option in this size is the XL version. That one seems to be non run flat.

Active Green + Ross have these listed as RF

I'd still just buy the non-run flat version.

For some reason the specific size (205/55R16) only seems to come either regular load run flat or XL load which the car doesn't need.

I'm sure the XL version would be fine on your car. I think the XL just indicates a higher load rating which shouldn't nake a difference to you. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, that's right.  XL should be fine, my front summer tires are XL rated, no issues.

Thank you all for the help! Just cancelled the run flats and will be going with the XL. Also will save $150 on a set of 4 with these compared to run flats  8)

You are right. Just checked on costco and your size has both options, run flat and regular. I run XL as it is the only Xi3 option for my car/size and the ride is nice, smooth and well controlled. So get the XL and you will be fine.
