In AB the Co-op 91 is ethanol free and my go to for the Land Rover and the bikes.

Same with MB Co-op.

Omg is this true?! I assumed 10% ethanol was the norm...

When I drove a minivan comparison test with C/D back in 2004 they told me at the time that they fuel up all vehicles with premium so that those who can use it are at their best.

Sure thing, that 2004 Odyssey felt stronger than my own 2003. The Sienna actually required premium at the time - go figure.

These days I get the cars with what the previous guy put in, but I fill up with the recommended octane when it's my turn to pump it in.

EVs don't care of course  ;D

Confirmed with Co-op engineer via email.

Red River Co-op here in Winnipeg has the following mix.

Regular: 10% ethanol
Mid-grade: 5% ethanol
Premium: no ethanol

EVs don't care of course  ;D

Only Premium electrons Sir  :hello:

The Volt gen 1 (1.4L), premium was " recommended" by mfg. The Volt gen 2 (1.5L, DI), regular gas is good enough.
Since the gen 2 is Direct Injection, I have read from a mechanic, premium could reduce carbon build at the valves level...
Anyone have opinions to share?

Premium could reduced this....Any ideas (via forum) how prone carbon buildup is on the Gen 2?

Of just use Top Tier regular.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

It was my intention, first 2019 Volt fill up this week was with premium, as I usually did with my 2013 Volt. One 35L tank per month or less, bottom line cost difference is negligible

You beat me to it....

I was going to say since you run on EV mode most often, I'd run premium since you won't really notice much cost difference

Well...there is premium cost with electricity just like fuel though (on-peak vs off-peak).

At home (D rate for domestic has 2 tiers), yes but a Rate Flex D & Winter Credit Option (incentive off peak) is coming

Yes :censor: !

A3 e-tron's 1.4t requires premium, same engine in Golf/Jetta is fine with regular. Anyway my March fill-up will last me 'till October so not much extra expense anyway.

Not crazy about the proposed variable rates as my car doesn't have any provision for charge scheduling. That feature was bundled with the 2,500$ nav option I did not need  ::)

Alberta and B.C. also do not have time based electricity charges, at least not for residential. I think because A/C use is uncommon. EVs are huge in B.C. but most people plug their cars in at night or maybe the cars are programmed from the factory to only charge at night that B.C. hasn’t felt the need to introduced time based changes.

A lot of generation goes to ground in Alberta and BC at night, and TOU charges have only applied to commercial users in an effort to have companies shift usage when possible.  It's thought (mostly correctly) that residential users can't shift usage patterns.  AB and BC are still primarily heat loads I believe.

One of the things that EPCOR did was pilot experiments like making ice at night as a method of storing coolant capacity for daytime AC consumption.  Not sure whatever came of that, it was just coming into use when I left the industry.

If load patterns change to the point where capacity is being brought on for nights, you'll see a rapid expansion of TOU billing to residential customers.  20 years ago TOU meters were expensive and not warranted for residential, but today, that's changed.  The technology is cheap now, but without changes to consumption patterns, utilities will just charge based on peak time rates.

Capacity to store gasoline is fairly cheap (USTs aren't terribly expensive in the grand scheme of car related infrastructure) but transporting large quantities does have some challenges.  I used to wonder why gasoline retailers didn't push automakers for a single fuel octane standard in order to reduce transport and storage costs, then I watched the price of premium fuel increase and increase to the point where the difference between regular and premium became very high.  Profits.  Lots of profits.  Margins are thin on regular fuel and quite fat on premium.  That extra 10-25% at the retail level makes a big difference.

I'm still amazed by such marketing...  :shuffle:
Wait a minute, your EVSE is a smart ChargePoint, so you only have to set starting time (software setting) to recharge, isn't?

I use 87 in my ATV with ethanol...the manual says it is the recommended fuel so why splurge for ethanol free gas? :D

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1) Less fuel economy for one.
2) Ethanol is hygroscopic (attracts water). Both are bad for fuel lines or metal parts. Rubber seals also don't care for ethanol. This is a problem if ethanol gas is sitting round your fuel tank a long time.
