Looks like the base MSRP for a 1970 220D was $US4782, about $US31k in today's money.

For reference a Buick Electra 225 went for about $35k (2019), about the same as a 911 at the time.

There was absolutely no question which car would be the most durable.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I really enjoyed mine although it was a sub-$1k example. Mine was rusty but you could tell it was built well. The engine ran beautifully once it started which sometimes took a bit. From what I gathered the hp rating is 59 which is not a lot. First gear is also really geared low so taking off from a traffic light you are into second before clearing the intersection. People behind you get annoyed. I once raced a VW van (80s style) and lost badly.  ;D

Thanks for showing it to me when I was in Lethbridge, that was cool.

The owner's manual with what seemed like every country listed was interesting. You could tell these were a 'world vehicle', like the Mercedes heavy trucks of that era
