I doubt it would be able to be sold at a price point in sufficient volumes to justify Ford to sell it in Canada. Plus, Ford in North America is more concerned about utilising its capacity for high profit SUVs and trucks.

Originally the Focus was supposed to be made in Méxique for North America but the tariffs and political instability with the NAFTA or whatever you guys have left just wasn't good enough to make financial sense.

Gotta have the mind of an accountant guys. Car companies are there to make money, not please enthusiasts.

If enthusiasm dies, the car becomes just another household white good, bought on price alone.

The auto manufacturers might be struggling now, but it would get much much tougher then.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Not if you can convert enthusiastics to buy sport SUVs....the ST Edge and Explorer are good examples, you can bet there will be a Escape and Scout STs - although I have no idea if they are actually converting or not.

SUVs are inherently heavily compromised. The centre of gravity is too high, the frontal area is too large and the weight is higher. With identical powertrains and suspension tuning, the car will be dynamically better. It doesn't matter for the general trend chasing populace, but any enthusiast worth his salt knows the difference.

Agreed. At least in North America sports cars were always niche anyway, there's a much wider range of vehicles people get excited about (and spend money on) than those that are faster around a corner.

It's more an SI, GTI, and WRX competitor than a Type R, R, and STI competitor like the RS was.

Really, would the current North American buyer pay this for a Focus ST :

Starting price : 31 900 €

Throw in just a small smattering of options : heated seats, a moonroof, LED headlights, tinted rear windows, basic navigation, metallic paint, etc...

MSRP : 37 075 € (TTC)

Ignoring any exchange rate, let's say 40 k$

*Insert southern American accent here* I could buy a F-150 or Explorer for that kinda money !

nope...this would be very limited in terms of sales....the 1st competitor that comes to mind would be the Edge ST @$42k USD

An Edge is a performance car as a Fiesta is an off-roader.
