Need new all season rubber for 2016 Acura RDX (update)
« on: March 20, 2019, 10:41:43 am »
My friend is looking to replace OEM tires on his 2016 RDX. He has asked for my help. I do not own an SUV and in doing research I was surprised to see how poorly SUV tires rated overall. Rather discouraging reviews.

Size 235/60/R18

Just because I am so pleased with my 2 sets of Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus that I have bought for my cars I was thinking Pirelli. His SUV would require Pirelli Verde All season PLUS. Costco is currently offering a $80 cash card.

They rank fairly well in Tire Rack survey but not great.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=CSTAS&width=235%2F&ratio=60&diameter=18&tireSearch=true&filter=y&autoMake=Acura&autoYear=2016&autoModel=RDX+AWD&autoModClar=

They rank number one for that tire size in 1010 tire

https://www.1010tires.com/Tires/Reviews/235-60R18/Light+Trucks+and+SUVs/All+Season

However in reading reviews the comments from owners are all over the map. Soooo confusing. ??? ???

Does anyone have any suggestions, comments or recommendations.

Thanks

That's the tire I would go with.   Not sure where you're getting that they didn't rank great in the Tire Rack survey.   They're 4th on the list but the tires in 1st and 2nd have too few reviews (none in the case of the cross climate)m so in my mind they're sitting in 2nd, just behind the Continental.

The Premier LTX is supposed to be good but lots of complaints about excessive tire wear, so I'd avoid them. (I actually bought a set, but at less than 10k/season I'm not that worried about wear)

Costco pricing on those Pirelli's is also good, at least in my size.

I should mention that we are in Quebec and have dedicated snow tires. So winter performance is not much of a factor in the buying decision.

My X5 came with the Pirelli Verde. I've run them for two seasons now with no complaints as to ride or handling. They also seem to be holding up well in terms of tread wear.

Just an update. Check in with my friend and he is really pleased with his Pirelli Verde All season PLUS that he got for his RDX. Smooth and quiet.

Between this and my positive experience with two sets of Pirelli P7's and one set Ice Zero FR's... I think Pirelli is becoming my go to tire brand.

Jury is out on tire wear yet but we will see.

I've got Pirelli Scorpions on my Ford Edge.
 Very good tire.

Quickly becoming a Pirelli slappy here, too.  Sottozero Serie II winter tires and P7 Cinturato All-Season Plus on the MINI.  Looking to replace the summer HiPo tires on the TT and thinking along the Pirelli line there, too.  They balance well and are very quiet...the winter tires as well.

I considered them for a second...then saw they were about the same price as the amazing Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

Which ones are you looking at BTW??

@rrocket: Don’t know at this point. Simply put, I’ve had my eyes opened with the overall goodness of the brand. I don’t even know at this point whether Pirelli has a viable replacement for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S but I plan to widen my search. The excellent Dunlop Sport Maxx RTs that I currently run, size 255/35/19 XL are a couple of mm from their TWIs. They, too, made me reconsider my then Michelin fanboy-ishness, so I am more open-minded than ever. These would be for DD use.

Per the Tirerack, it's the Pirelli P Zero PZ4.

Look into the General G-Max RS.  Some Michelin IS-F and 911 fanboys are running them...and claiming that they are close enough to being as good as PS2s.

It's what I'll be running this year.
