Nice article that mostly echoes my thoughts on the subject.

I would argue that the E90 manual sold in reasonable numbers. That's the generation where the popularity of AWD really took off, and they still offered the 325i and 328i with both a manual AND xDrive. There's a lot of 328i xDrive manuals around – there's even quite a few wagons equipped thusly.

Also, the article completely ignores the fact that the the Genesis 2.0T offers RWD with a manual. The new M3 will also offer a RWD manual version (in addition to an automatic or dual-clutch AWD model).

But yeah, the normal 3-series is pretty much dead to me at this point after being one of my favourite cars for the last 25+ years, and that's a shame.

Author mentions the Impreza but not the WRX? WRX still has manual available and the STI is exclusively a 6 spd manual.

I'm assuming he was talking about the WRX and STI.

yep, we are living in both an amazing time automotive, and the beginning of the auto-calypse depending on how you look at it

Vehicles are all becoming a variation on a theme, all like the others with a different badge. Special-ness is gone, and who cares right? They only get us from a to b.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I remember when BMW actually meant the ultimate driving machine, now its a fancy badge with a sketchy computer attached to it. I remember the Nissan Maxima SE, with its great V6, LSD and manual transmission, now the only thing it does is make a case to buy an Infinity. The fact that manuals in a sedan are gone is sad, I would have never bought my V6 Altima without a manual, with an auto, you can do OH so much better than an Altima from the Camacord crowd. Great article....but very sad.
Lighten up Francis.....
