A mini non-hatchback Stinger.

Other than the base model with all the features I think anyone really needs, plus heated seats and steering wheel, I struggle to see why someone would want this over the Corolla or Civic (or Mazda 3 for that matter).  I know the Koreans play the content for the lowest dollar game well and that alone will sell vehicles but there really isn't anything this vehicle does that stands out in my book.

If I want reliability and fuel economy I'll buy the Corolla, if I want something that is fun to drive but a little less reliable I'll get a Civic, if I want to pay the least and get the most content I guess I get one of these.

The article is right about how competitive this segment is and the one that interest me the most currently out of the recent offerings would be the new Corolla Hatchback with a manual.  Decent power, proven reliability, nice interior and exterior design, and even a decent price.

Well it's a handsome little sedan, I'll give it that. Might well appeal to those who find the Civic a bit too Batmobile.  Pretty sure I would prefer the sweet 1.5 turbo motor from the Civic, though.

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Hmmm, not too bad... side profile reminds me of the last Dodge Dart though. It's not a radical looking car by any means, so it will probably stand the test of time a bit better than the latest Civic will.

In this segment, Corolla Hatch for me too.
Would probably be you, me and about 16 others across the country that would want that manual.

"All that work is well worth it for a transmission that saves weight, space, and complexity over the six-speed automatic it replaces."

Oh sure. Received wisdom. And the non-existent crowd huzzahs in agreement. The gutless wonder of the  engine is noteworthy too.

The car as toaster. Entirely forgettable so long as it browns the bread slice evenly, the equivalent of home to work and back. No more, no less.

Could one stand proud, one foot on fender and emote endlessly on the wonders of this fine automobile to an enchanted audience? No, it is entirely forgettable, You turn it on, it works, no finesse, no charm. Low weekly payment, only $4 more with rubber floormats and undercoating.

Pfft.
