2011 Nissan Rogue SL
« on: December 05, 2018, 08:17:33 am »
Hi, I recently bought a 2011 nissan rogue sl awd with 54k miles. My wife and I love the car so far. It was a time crunch to replace my old car After it was rear ended. After the purchase, I found online all of the posts about the cvt transmission overheating and requiring a ~$4k replacement. Does anyone here own this year/make/model and has not had this cvt problem? In other words, please tell me I didn't just make a big car purchase mistake. Thank you

I wouldn't worry too much.

I owned an Altima with the same 2.5L engine/CVT combo.  By the time 2011 rolled around, Nissan had worked out most of the bugs and kinks with their CVT's, at least with regards to the units attached to 4-cylinder motors.  They were still having problems around that time with CVT's mounted up to their more powerful V6 engines, like those in the Murano and Pathfinder.

I don't think you need to worry much if at all.  If you're really, really worried about it, and how the Rogue may have been treated by its past owner(s), you can take it to a Nissan dealership and pay them the $300-$400 to change out the CVT fluid (although that's not necessarily something I would worry about until about 100 000kms).

I handed down my 09 Altima with the same engine and transmission combo to my brother and it's still running well without any issue for CVT. It has well over 150K km on it.

My daughter has had 2 Rogues.  I think the first one was an 08. She has a 2011 SL at the moment that was bought about 31/2 years ago with 60K on the clock. Both were/are good cars and quite reliable.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.
