As a big fan of each the RnineT and the S1000R, I was hopeful that the R1200R (I didn't try the RS), would combine the best of both worlds. In actuality, I found the boxer engine to be slow-revving (a trait that suits the heritage-style bike), and the styling just left me flat.
Instead, from the Motorrad division, the MUCH better choice to the R1200R for sport touring duties is the S1000XR. The buzz-saw engine is a bit fizzy for long-distance touring, but I'd happily take that with it's ability to wind out and sing over the grunty boxer.
