New bike
« on: May 16, 2018, 12:45:47 am »
Well I finally pulled the trigger on another bike. A 2018 Husqvarna FE501. So far have added the double take mirrors and full skid plate. The bike has been desmogged (way too restricted and lean) and remapped. A cushy tall seat has been added and I had to go up two spring rates for the forks and rear spring. Far from cheap but a 245 lb bike with 62ish HP is worth every penny.

:Long list of things to bolt on and add...Endless really. ;D

Very nice.   That bike would be on my short list.

What tires are on it?
Changing them to knobbies?

If it was legal, you could literally ride all day on it and only have the front tire on the ground when you had to stop.

I'd love one!  Nice buy.

Current tires are Continental TKC Twinduro 80s.

I will either swap them out in a few weeks for real offroad tires (Pirelli XC mid hards or a rear MT16 Garacross).

OR.

Buy anther set of wheels and mount my dirt knobbies to them and keep the dual sport knobs for kicking around town. I will then need a set of motard wheels.

and yes although I am still in the break-in cycle this thing will lift its front by just rolling the throttle in gears 1-4.

I love big thumper single dirt bikes.  Those old Honda XL and XR bikes really sold me on the concept.  I was a CR diehard and then rode an XR500 and that really turned me around on four strokes.

Great bike! Congrats!

In the early 80's I had a Yamaha XT550. Loved that bike!

It's one of the bikes I wished I'd kept.

I had a DR650.  Not much good to say about it. (Because I also had an XR650R)

$13K for a dirt bike sounds like a lot, but it's a lot of bike.  Honda doesn't make any thing comparable now, ugh.

Very cool! I thought 63 HP was fun in my 305 lb 690E. It must be an absolute riot on that bike!

It's frankly way too much for single tracking and a reason I may keep my 300 around.  Desert and dual sport and rough adventure riding it will come into its own. Hare scramble racing? Definitely the 300 is quicker. . I did briefly look at XR650s but I would spend and extra $7500 trying to reduce all that weight. $13k? I wish. Once I do all the do dads and a second set of wheels it will be $16k :o The 4 strokes were redesigned in 2017 and the handling so far seems like a big advancement over the 2016 and earlier bikes.

Someone has to buy new ones to keep up the supply of old ones. I'll take the hit on this one.
