"Consider the Crosstrek alongside other small utility vehicles like the Honda HR-V, Buick Encore and Nissan Juke."
Cashcow?  Err, Qashqai?

Otherwise, let the comments I disagree with begin:

Can't mention this era Subaru without mentioning cracked windshields and oil consumption.  The later could ring up an expensive bill.

Is the 2.0 also afflicted with the oil issue or is it just a 2.5 concern?

As for windshields, that seems to be much more a driving condition thing; the only vehicle I had that I thought was bad with windshields was a Corolla and in addition to the windshield it ate headlights and the fog lights I had mounted on it.  My '09 Forester went through 5 windshields in 7 years/200,000 kms but it had hard driving with lots on kms on active gravel logging roads as well as winter highways.  The Sienna went through a couple without the gravel road use and with less kms but the winter roads in BC can be brutal with the "sand" they use.

No cars I've ever come into contact with ever needed a new windfalls, except for my coworker's Jeep Wrangler and my brother's Mazda 3 (after a leaf spring was picked up by a truck on the 401).

I guess we should all avoid Mazda and Jeep now.

My father in law's 996 Turbo burns oil, though my 2011 Forester XT doesn't...I guess Porsche is an unreliable POS.

Norm, can it already.

Just like oil consumption law suit, Subaru comes around to help.  The damage usually happens at highway speeds so if your a city dweller you might not ever be effected.

Cracked windshields isn't a thing. Around here its a fact of life. Oil consumption...meh...it depends on the amount.
Lighten up Francis.....

I skimmed through all 117 posts on that thread you linked, and except for one asking if it would apply to Crosstreks (post 6, no response) they are for Outbacks, and the attached letter from Subaru referenced Outbacks and Legacys (post 1), so I am not sure what you are trying to say with this in reference to the used Crosstrek review?

In Alberta, your freakin' lucky if your windshield makes it home from the shop without a chip or crack.

My 2011 vw has the origina windshield.  Lol but at least over a dozen chips fix.... I invested so much in it it's kind of sentimental

If the car would just burn oil ( little bit) I would be ok. It's the leaky gasket.....and you know the rest.  Sport car burning oil is not the same as a 4 banger Daily driver.

Not sure why people seem fine with windshield damage out here. It's like screening technology is a socialist plot to put Apple autoglass out of business.  ??? ;D

About the only vehicle that would survive with its windshield intact out here:

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

well when they "sand" the roads, they use gravel, so its more of a fact of life. I would love to be able to 3M the windshield......
