Dave is quite well known in the Miata community . He is presently recovering from an accident he had last year.

Yes he is...  a really great guy.
I didn't ask any details, but he is having surgery this week and his shop will be closed until next spring.

Turbo or Supercharger that is a slippery slope. :stick:

Yes, yes it is... cheaper than buying something new though!

It is and Dave can make it reliable.

While talking with the shop owner, got to turbo and supercharger kits.... he has installed about a dozen supercharger kits that add about 100 reliable hp.
About $8K for the kit and $2K install.
That nugget is now firmly planted in brain... i still love the thing but this would make it feel all new again.

Unless you plan on shelling out lots of money for a Porsche (or similar) this is a no brainer. I'll be looking forward to pictures in the spring when you get it done.

There's no $100K Porsche's in my future... so yeah...
This thing @ 2,300 lbs and ~260hp would probably be a quite a bit of fun...   ;D

After looking up Dave's Garage to see where it is I remember cycling past this place last month when they had a bunch (IE: over 30) of Miatas there for a meet. Now it all makes sense.

Well, you know my answer.

Though depending on your roads and the type of driving you do supercharger vs turbo might be a more difficult choice.

The most perfectly built turbo kit I ever tested was a Greddy kit on an S2000. Felt factory and the way the turbo made the power was absolutely seamless and the way it made the power didn't detract from the S2000. It Basically felt like a more robust, fatter VTEC transition. It was perfect.

On the other hand, I drove a turbo and supercharged BR-Z back to back at Accelerated....and preferred the supercharged. The turbo had the bigger top end hit...but the supercharged version was more linear and the torque delivery felt better to me....

Either way....would be great fun!
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

The grey roadster needs tires.   Just turned over 40,000 km's.. the original Bridgestone Potenza S002's are shot.

Looking at these three:

- Continental ExtremeContract Sport 02
- Michelin Pilot Super Sport
- Bridgestone Potenza Sport

Blackcircles.ca has the Continental's for $854 and Pilot's for $1,025 after discounts/rebates.
Costco has the Bridgestone's for $960;  the Pilot's are out of stock.

Sticking with stock size 205/45 17,  I am about to click Order on a set of the Continental's
https://www.blackcircles.ca/en/tire/continental/extremecontact-sport/205-45-r17-88-w--mk-bsw

Any other rubber choices out there i have missed?

Anyone dealt with Blackcircles before?

I run the Firestone Indy 500's on my SLK, a real popular tire with the guys at the track up in Calabogie as well as they tend to stick well & last long.

I like the Pilots - they seem to provide the best grip / ride balance that I have experienced for the street.

A journalist once said to me "there are only two tire brands in the world; Michelin and everyone else." I've bought hundreds of thousands of dollars in tires over the years, spec'd them for production cars, and tested dozens more... the saying bears out.

Will note that the Pilot Super Sport is the "old" performance tire, replaced years ago by the Pilot Sport 4S. Could be that they are still making the Super Sport in that mold size, but figured I'd mention in case they offer both.

Is this one of those nuggets from one of those journalist who rarely buy their own tires/cars? LOL [emoji38]

But I'll go ahead and disagree.

I've used tires over the years that impressed me more than the equivalent Michelins have.

Yeah, I've had tons of Michelins, and they're very good, but I wouldn't say they're hands down better than other big brands. I don't really have a strong brand preference, but I will say that every Bridgestone tire I've had has consistently impressed me.

I guess the question is, how do you use your Miata now?  Do you track?  Drive in bad weather?  Is maximum grip in the dry your main desire, longevity, price?

My Golf R came with conti’s and they were very good.  I put Firehawk Indy 500 on them at the end and they were equally as good in my eyes.  My GLI I swapped the all seasons to General Tire G Max RS and those were also very good and we’re holding up really well after two years that I had them before trading in the GLI.  My Civic Si has Dunlop Sport Maxx and I really like these too.  Even though they are summer performance rubber, they seem to be really good even on colder damper pavement.

These are all “best value” summer performance tires, and are more than good enough for daily driver and extracting the performance of these vehicles.  I would recommend any of these.

I agree, it's hard to make a bad choice with any of those bigger brands. I'd add the Cooper Zeon RS3 G1, I had them on the black SLK230 and for the couple thousand kms I put on that car I loved them. Super grippy wet and dry, and they were very affordable (at the time at least).

+1, Michelin has the worst winter tires ever for my local conditions - my Dad and others I know returned them. And their regular all-seasons are so-so and expensive - hated my set of Hydroedges. But Michelin high-end summer / 3-seasons are quite good. As a journalist, it's easy to put snow tires through their paces right up to the limits. Summer tires - not so much. Sticking to major brands is usually a safe bet!
