The 850i, also know as the Bavarian Thunderbird. It was fat, and expensive, but at least it was horribly unreliable, so it all worked out.  :shake:

It was also a huge disappointment after the wonderful 6 series that it sort of replaced.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

If it's like the 4-door 6 Series Grand Coupe that we have now, why not?  BMW can probably make more money that way.

Is BMW making more money selling the 5-series or the 6-series GC?

...because an i5, being a larger version of the i3, would sell better.

Margins are higher on the 6-series.

If you are among the i-series enthusiasts, this other piece of news is for you: in addition to the 9 series, another electric powertrain should join the i3 and the i8. The i6 sedan would be launched by the year 2020 and should be powered by two to four electric engines, equipped with a possible lithium-polymer battery pack believed to be cheaper to produce with up to three times the energy capacity as the current lithium-ion batteries.

This is not even a vaporware stage, this is a pipe dream. Everybody can make and sell a full EV when the batteries are 1/3 the cost per kWh. But I will give them a credit where it's due, the i3 may look unconventional but is an amazingly well engineered car. Hope this repeats with the i6, but it needs to come sooner.
