Ah, I sit here corrected. Right you are Pritch.
I went back to my old what car thread back in 2011 & found my notes... the T5 was a 2012, the T6 was an '11:
I could have swored the T5 was AWD, but nope. The brain cells are getting old.
Today is it was Volvo’s turn. Drove a 2012 S60 (2.5L 5 Cyl. Turbo, FWD) and a 2011 S60 (3.0L 6 Cyl. Turbo, AWD).
First was the 2011. Took it for a good run with some quiet bendy back road stuff in the mix. The car handled very well (the handling really surprised me) and the T6 is VERY quick and smooth. Fantastic powertrain, feels very well matched to the auto gearbox. It was perfectly happy carving up the corners and also is a very comfortable cruiser. Really liked it.
Got out the the T6 and right into the 2012 T5. Interior is identical, only difference really is the engine and FWD instead of AWD. Right away can feel the difference in powertrain. The T5 had good punch but for sure can feel its down about 50 in HP & torque. Also was a little coarse compared to the very smooth T6. Transmission didn’t feel as happy either, could feel it hesitating just slightly like it had to think about what gear to be in. The T6 was unflappable in that regard. The T5 is plenty nice, but driving it back to back its clearly a step down from the T6.
