Small correction with this:

At launch, all models got a turbocharged 3-litre straight six good for 300 horsepower, a six-speed automatic transmission, and All-Wheel Drive. Five-cylinder models, and front-drive models came online from model year 2012

Both the T5 and T6 was available in 2011 with AWD - I tested them both back in Feb 2011 when I bought mine.
The FWD T5 came in 2012

Good review of the pluses & minuses.  Was a solid car.

Thanks Stodge, I fixed the typo.
Weels, JP says he was on the launch event and the FWD and T5 weren't available at launch. So I'll let you two hammer that one out.

I couldn't find 2011 with T5 in any of my usual sources, and i recall staff on the launch saying we only had T6 AWD models on the launch event because that's all that was available at launch. This is all i remember.

Ah, I sit here corrected.  Right you are Pritch.
I went back to my old what car thread back in 2011 & found my notes... the T5 was a 2012, the T6 was an '11:
I could have swored the T5 was AWD, but nope.  The brain cells are getting old.   ;D

Today is it was Volvo’s turn.  Drove a 2012 S60 (2.5L 5 Cyl. Turbo, FWD) and a 2011 S60 (3.0L 6 Cyl. Turbo, AWD).
First was the 2011.   Took it for a good run with some quiet bendy back road stuff in the mix.  The car handled very well (the handling really surprised me) and the T6 is VERY quick and smooth.  Fantastic powertrain, feels very well matched to the auto gearbox.  It was perfectly happy carving up the corners and also is a very comfortable cruiser.  Really liked it.

Got out the the T6 and right into the 2012 T5.  Interior is identical,  only difference really is the engine and FWD instead of AWD.  Right away can feel the difference in powertrain.  The T5 had good punch but for sure can feel its down about 50 in HP & torque.  Also was a little coarse compared to the very smooth T6.   Transmission didn’t feel as happy either, could feel it hesitating just slightly like it had to think about what gear to be in.  The T6 was unflappable in that regard.  The T5 is plenty nice, but driving it back to back its clearly a step down from the T6.

Hey, I own one of these!  A 2013 S60 R-Design.  Sneaky, sneaky fast (think almost as quick as a BMW 335i) but completely under the radar.  Super comfortable.  Decent stereo.  Not bad looking either.  City Safety rocks.  Camera based blind spot monitoring doesn't like rain. (new models are radar based - much better)  Good AWD system, but front drive biased, just so you know.  Downside?  No spare tire (had to buy one myself from Volvo) and not runflats either, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.  No TPM either.  Overall a good car and would be an excellent used buy, especially in T6 AWD guise.  I bought mine new because I got an extra year of warranty.  I will likely keep it for a while even after warranty is up.  Not as scary a proposition as a BMW off of warranty. (been there, done that, cost mucho $$)
