I'm more excited about this statement:

"When production of the new model begins, Subaru will have four models produced in the U.S.: Legacy, Outback, a new Impreza compact sedan and 5-door model beginning production in late 2016, and this new crossover."

I think it's an exciting move, if not a little odd...it must be based on the Legacy in order for it to be reasonably capable of making some money (without burning too much in R&D on a whole new platform).

You do realize the picture in the article is of the Tribeca and not the new model they plan to come out with, right?

The Tribeca was actually a really nice vehicle - had the nicest interior that Subaru offered with a modern design.  The drivetrain was nice with the fantastic VTD AWD including a rear mechanical LSD.  True the third row was a joke, but overall, I found it a very worthy alternative to a Highlander.

Problems?  Pricing.  Without all the incentives that came at the end, the Tribeca was priced quite a bit more than the Highlander or even Pilot.  Whoops.  Odd and then later bland exterior styling didn't help.  Fuel economy of the H6 was poorest in the class.

I didn't bother looking at used ones - dealers wanted ridiculous sums for them and private sales were rare and seemed to be bought by people that were clueless about maintaining a vehicle.  I found that odd since it's not hard to find really well cared for other Subaru models in the private sales market.
