3000 rpm at 100km/hr simply does not cut it anymore.  Actually, it didn't cut it 10 years ago.

The 2008 Fit rev'd at 2600 rpm with the 5 speed manual and with the automatic it was around 2150.   This newest generation has considerably more power - almost 20% - so should have no problem exceeding those numbers.

What gives?  I can't believe the Fit with a tight 6 speed box is both high reving and slow.  Has it put on 250 kg??  It doesn't make sense.

Cheers,
John M.

The argument that this is purely an urban vehicle bothers me, and I thank all for not making it :)

Just because a vehicle drives in the city doesn't mean it shouldn't have any pick up.

I hear the new fit lost its "fun to drive" character and is more of an appliance now. Is this true?

The first two generations of Fits had more then adequate power especially with the manual.  Is this one that much slower?   Seems doubtful.

You guys need to hone your driving skills.  I drove a 50hp 1976 Civic across the country with no problem, city or highway. Pass 10 cars in a short space?  No. But you just know what it can and cannot do and drive to that. There's no modern car that I'd actually call slow or dangerously underpowered.

So the bottom line of this test is, incredibly, pass on the manual and go with the CVT.   The highway revs would be a deal killer for me and I'm sure the cvt would drop the 100km spinning by close to 1000rpm.

This Fit cannot be slower than the first or second generation as it has close to 20% more power and is the same weight.  The transmission seems to be the screwup here and probably Honda figured 6 speed sales would be minimal and did all of their development with the CVT.

It would be nice to see a mini-test of the Fit with the transmission everyone is going out the door with.

Cheers,
John M.

My sister had an early 1980s Rabbit diesel. No turbo, four speed manual and something like 50hp. I had it for a week or two while my truck was out of commission. Cruise control consisted of planting your foot to the floor and leaving it there. Eventually, it would hit somewhere around 120kph, but the speed would bleed off and the faintest hint of headwind or hill. But I filled it for $13, so that was nice.

Drive with the car you have, not the car you wish you had, and you won't have any issues.
