I'm not sure the difference between 135km and 180km will really drive sales...especially if it's a higher-trim option only.

The difference between 135km and a 320km range, like that which is allegedly to be offered in the Bolt, would be staggering and worth an 'up'charge.

If it had 180 km range and the range loss issues were gone I'd have bought one as 135 was just too low for me...
+1
My daily commute would make me nervous with the 135 (under 100 in winter). That extra 45km would probably bring me to the dealer.
If only the Leaf weren't so ugly. :)

I understand that in the Us the price will stay roughly the same. Here, with the sinking $CAD, It may be another story..

Montreal is preparing a tender for a car-share system that would supply 100% electric cars, but manufacturers are complaining as right now only a Tesla S fits the requirements: seats 4, able to travel 150 km on a single charge.

In the article, Mitsubishi made a blunder, revealing the iMiEV had a range of ... 45km in winter. That's based on a pretty solid pilot conducted during a mild winter here in QC (not last year!!).

Edit: an early Leaf buyer here made the news and was only then finally able to have Nissan buy back his EV. The guy had believed the range promises and kept running out of juice after 70km.

CTV news had an EV (puff) piece on this morning - Tesla owner in Ottawa. No mention on the range on a typical -20C Winter Ottawa morning, just that Tesla had a hard time keeping up with buyer demand on a starting price $70,000, and how super cool the Tesla is.

If Tesla doesn't stop bleeding money soon, those gubmint grants that Musk has will soon be gone.
Lived the practical EV dream nightmare 1st hand.

Watch this video and let me know what you think:

The Tesla Model S does not suffer from winter range as much as other electric cars due to the heat pump that recycles heat from the drive unit and inverter back into the battery and cabin.   I discussed this with a fellow Tesla owner who drives 250 km daily commute in all weather conditions, he sees at most 20% difference in summer/winter range on extremes of hot/cold.

Whereas other electric cars like my Smart ED do have a 50% difference from summer to winter driving range.  Then again, my commute is only 20 minutes, so this is barely long enough to use a fraction of my battery, so I NEVER suffer with range anxiety, and my car is toasty warm far faster than all the other gas cars around me!

Oh yeah, one more point, all of the destinations we have in Ontario for our weekly winter road trips (we travel 500 km per week in the winter) have chargers at local hotels or restaurants.  I'll keep notes on my experiences and write them in my show/shine posts.
