I've owned quite a few cars with iron blocks and didn't find them noisy - noise depended on all kind of things but I don't think it was block material dependent.

My various Mercedes inline engines were all iron block with aluminum heads and while the big double row timing chains added some noise, otherwise the engines were quiet, smooth and wonderful to live with.

Maybe it was iron block 4-cylinder with a balanced shaft, but there is a diatictive, sewing machine thrum.
