I guess GTI and the Focus ST will have some competition, but I would think it would need AWD to truly compete with the R, RS, WRX, and STi.  No?

...or perhaps this thing will be <$30,000 ($3k more than the SI?) and therefore undercut the competitors' prices?  (Focus ST is $30,495)

Under $30k would be very aggressive. I'd guess it will be a bit north of that but will likely undercut the STI and R by a good chunk.

I'm sure the car's great to drive, but man, it sure does look like an ugly duckling in the pictures.

Isn't the current SI already $28K? Wouldn't the Type-R but much, much more.

I'm pretty sure this car will be close to $40,000 when it comes out. I'm basing that on the near-30k price tag on the current Si. I'm also factoring in the coupe Si that will also feature a detuned version of the Type-R powerplant - I'm guessing that will be in the low 30s. Who knows, maybe we'll be surprised with a 300 hp 30k car.
If it shifts, it drifts.

So excited!

I'm glad that this will throw off the conservative baggage of the Si, and embrace a more aggressive stance.

As for the lack of AWD, I don't think it will be an issue so long as Honda keeps torque steer under control and digs up their awesome handling FWD magic they had in the Integra R days.

Also, I suspect that this will undercut similarly equipped Focus RS, GTI R, and WRX STi models. I expect/hope that fully loaded it will be on price parity with a GTI 5-door Autobahn (i.e. $35k).
