Change for the sake of change?  It's a fantastic car in the first place, do we have to have changes?  Gem?  Indeed!

The new Mustang is putting the hurt on this car, big time.

Do you think there is a lot of cross shopping happening between the two?

I think so, considering the vast handling and other improvements of the Stang. Both 4 cylinder, both very track capable, same basic styling configuration, both lookers, close in performance metrics and fuel economy, and also close in price. Of course, the elephant in the room that will dissuade cross-shopping is the almost 800 lb. weight difference.

Thanks for the link - good read. Predictable results; 800 extra lbs. changes the nature of a vehicle. Ford has done a good job of compensating, so much so that I still believe cross-shopping will definitely occur.

Why would you buy a new one if the new looks exactly like the old one?

If I like the car, why not?  By your logic they have to change the appearance every year.

Two very different cars. I like them both, and would consider both.

The Mustang is quicker, the BRZ is lighter with much sharper handling at the expense of ride quality. The interior of the Mustang is better and it has a useable back seat. The back seat of the BRZ is strictly ornamental.

It completely depends on the buyer's preferences.

While we're on the topic of Mustang vs. BRZ/FRS, I'd pick the Mustang any day.  I don't feel comfortable in a BRZ/FRS; it's just too small for me.

I love the Toyobaru twins, they are such a blast to drive even with their peaky, undersized engines I have driven few cars that leave you with such satisfaction.....I have yet to drive the new Mustang, I imagine though its a bigger, more comfortable car with a lot more power but I doubt it will be as satisfying of a drive.....I wonder if you could fit that sweet Lexus V8 into the FR-S??  ;D

Lighten up Francis.....

You can fit a 2JZ in one.

But yea, companies are doing V8 swaps. Only 60lbs heavier.

The V8 is probably overkill, wish there were simpler modifications to boost power. From what I read, the supercharger addition is unimpressive.

You've been misinformed.  The shop where I did my dyno tuning on the Supra was the 1st in the country to make a turbo kit for the BRZ/FRS.  After several months, HKS (and others) came out with a supercharger kit.  The one time we were there, they had cars with both.  Both were running fairly high boost, but still safe.  And they were very fast.

Here's the turbo car with the boost way up.  BTW...this was still on the stock bottom end.  To see how robust the bottom end was, they kept turning up the boost.  Finally, it broke.  But it was the edge of the piston where it meets the ring that broke.

Turns out the little 2L is beefy!  It can take some serious power - kudos to Subaru for building it strong.  I understand the turbo is slick, but the supercharger is an easier install and works very well - this is one instance where I'd go for the driven blower (I prefer turbos normally) over the turbo.

Even stock though the car is tons of fun.  If I were going to go street-only I might leave it.  Track use though I'd be very tempted to add some juice.  With comp tires, you could use the extra power...
