How should Noto and his Turd of a friend get to Tremblant this weekend?

Porter flights (directly to Mont Tremblant) ($449pp)
2 (15.4%)
Via Rail ($190pp, but only goes to Mtl, thereafter we'd rent a car with winter tires for $29 for the weekend and return by train)
0 (0%)
Rent a car in the GTA ($87 all-in for the weekend, but 'new' all-season tires, according to the sack at the local rental car counter...)
4 (30.8%)
Don't bother going - too expensive, Tremblant is sh!t, and your friend is equally made of fecal matter
7 (53.8%)

What if you take your buddy out drinking...get him loaded.  Then offer to drive him home (in his car) and end up in Mont Tremblant?

Would that work?   ;D
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

If someone does not have their own insurance, they can still rent a car but are advised to purchase some form of 3rd party liability, else they face the risk of personal liability.  TECHNICALLY, if stopped by a police officer, you could be asked for your insurance and if you don't have it, you could be ticketed for driving without.  As far as recovery is concerned, there are ways to get $ if a person isn't insured (I'm not giving away all of my secrets ;)).

Wait, so technically you can operate a car without having 3rd party liability insurance?
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I want to put my motorcycle helmet and gear on and go down a ski slope in an inner tube.

Do they allow that?

Some places have a dedicated tubing area - otherwise no, as you're not in control.

OMG - too true.  If I'm working and I see that, they either get it together or I pull their ticket.

And why isn't NoTo on his way to Smithers, BC?

If it takes 5+ pages to plan a 6-7 hour drive to Tremblant just think how many it would take to get to BC.

We would have had to start the planning in September.  :rofl2:

^^

No, I'm relegated to:

As a FINAL update to this, I cancelled the car rental reservation.  We are flying out tonight at 7:10pm with Porter.  The price dropped to $287pp all-in and 14 hours saved was all too tempting :)

Total cost for the trip ~$489 +food/drink (so a little over $1,500 after tonight's beers based on Tremblant prices).  Can't wait for the poutine!

If anyone will be at Tremblant and wants to play Where's Waldo, Noto-edition, I'll be in a black/red Spyder jacket.  Good luck ;)

So, in retrospect - was driving the better option?

So, hilariously enough, I flew.

Flight there = BLISS.  Free booze, helped my buddy pick up a lovely lady in the boarding lounge pre-flight (and now they're going on a date this week - cute!), and we were in our hotel by 9pm.  Some more beer and poutine later, we went to bed to wake up for first tracks the next morning - conditions were PERFECT (for on-piste, that is...not much snow in the glades).  It was fairly empty this weekend, too.  Really great time.

Sunday we skied all day, got off the slopes at 2:30pm, did the outdoor hot tub thing until 3:15pm, then showered, packed up, ate, and got into our shuttle back to the airport at 4:55pm.

...and therein laid the sh!tshow:

Flight scheduled for 7:00pm, delayed to 9:10pm.  Then 10:50pm.  Then 11:15pm.  Island Airport closes at 11pm, so we were then going to fly into Pearson, but then at 11:30pm, they cancelled the flight.

...because it was due to weather, they did not cover the cost of our hotel, and because Porter only flies Thurs-Sunday, I was 're-booked' for Friday.  FRIDAY!  Apparently I was one of 30 lawyers on the flight, so voices were raised and a new flight was added for today.  I got into work at 4:45pm.

I would absolutely fly Porter again - the ordeal really wasn't bad and staff were super friendly.  I'm out $123 on a hotel, which my credit card insurance covers, and I'll call Porter for a voucher later so I can get to fly with them again, less a small amount for not cancelling it sooner despite knowing that they would have to (i.e. so I would have just stayed in the Village Sunday night).

Still happy I didn't drive -the roads were brutal.

Glad you had a good time!  I'm busy trying to re-arrange some planned trips to make a sojourn to Smithers to slay all that powder.
