not uppity, but as a car guy you should know... :P

It is not like I chided you for spelling Koenigsegg wrong or something...rather instead Alfa is one of, if not THE, oldest car companies in the world

but yes they are stupid rare, which is one of the reasons I love them. Still has some of the mystique about the marque about it. Hopefully that all changes in the next year or so as Alfa enters the NA market with a rash of new models.

I hate seeing myself driving the other way. A Saab and an Alfa have cured that pet peeve.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I don't think people understand the point with the NEW Nissan Micra here.  The main selling point is that it was not driven by Sh!t heads like a lot of people drive these days.  You know, the yahoos who like go 'row thru the gears right up to redline, and hold it there, screaming for mercy. Driving like that can shorten the car's life by years, possibly DECADES.  Guys who drive manuals are the worst offenders I'm sure everyone should agree that they are a menace to everyone else.

Anyways, lets move on shall we?

Lets say you have HALF A BRAIN and you buy an automatic instead (as opposed to almost no brain for the manual drivers),  there is a good chance (50% chance) it was in a parking lot fender bender and has some BONDO on it, something that the report will show as just a slight repair.   So you get a 2010 Honda civic that had a collapsed left quarter panel and a replaced bumper, together with an engine that is going to need massive engine repairs in a month or two, and there is no way a sane person is going to take that thing on a cross-country trip without having a soul-destroying breakdown along the side of the road somewhere.

Now lets say you have a kid you cherish and you don't want your kid to have their car CRAP OUT at 2 in the morning on the way home from a party?   YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BUY THEM A USED CAR,  NOT IF YOU VALUE THEIR LIFE that is.

That is why caring parents are going to buy their kids a brand new Nissan Micra =  because it wasn't previously driven by jerks, and it just makes sense.

A colleague of the missus bought a super-clean IS250 AWD for less than the price of a new Yaris.

Give the IDIOT OF THE YEAR AWARD to the colleague of your 'missus' !

Watch this video and you will quickly realize why beside the serious problem lexus is having with their IS250 engines developing carbon coatings on their valves, they have so many other problems that Lexus is now REBUILDING OWNER'S ENGINES under a recall covering ALL IS250 cars.  Yup, ALL.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK2C0itdIDI

And that is just the beginning of the problems for anyone foolish enough to buy a IS250, it is a total lemon to be avoided.
That's why you see so many on sale, for such a low price.

Sure it looks plush and rich, but you are going to spend a good $8,000 over the next 5 years just fixing all the problems that will crop up.

MICRA = SWEET DEAL.

Here is information about the carbon buildup problem in IS250 engines and why you need to have your head read (the one on your shoulders) if you buy one of these used lemons:

I saw that you had answered a question about carbon build up and piston repair on IS250. I have a 2007 IS250 with 43,000 miles and took it to dealership with check engine light and rough idle. I only have had the car for 1 year but it was regularly serviced at Lexus dealership before and after I got it. I was not low on oil, I don’t know if it got premium gas all of its life. The Dealership told me that it was carbon build up and already replaced my pistons but I am concerned that it may happen again after warranty.

SERVICE SPECIALIST QUOTE:
That car has been plauged with misfire issues since it was introduced. First there was a bulletin for replacing valve springs. Then one for the top engine soak procedure. Now the newest for replacing the pistons and rings. Is it a permanant fix? Good question. 2010 models have the upgraded parts and I have heard of them also having the misfire issues.

So there you go:  buy a Lexus 250 and you will need a major engine serving every 2 years.  Nice eh?

I am finding in canada 4 years and just over 100K km gets you MASSIVE depreciation, yet if you buy a higher end car, they are well cared for and often came with free factory maint. Last one I bought had a withering 75% depreciation from MSRP, and I am still driving it 5 years later. Has been an AWESOME car.

Clearly it needs some major servicing.  Just not sure if it's therapy or surgery!
