With a measly 40 BILLION dollars in the bank Toyota obviously has to cut costs where it can.

Australia is such a tiny market and I am surprised it took this long for all the manufactures to pull out. The only reason Canada assembles cars is a result of our proximity to the US. A curse and a blessing.

Free trade rears its ugly head again.

To put it into other words , what economic theories prevail now that were not in favour when Toyota,
Ford and GM built the Australian auto industry in the first place?

 ??? Economies of scale. Buy a domestically manufactured car for $40k or an import of the same model for $30k.
