Wonder if they will ever put safety back to being the responsibility of the driver?

Did anyone even watch the video before the wrote the headline? The big change is incorporating anti collision systems into the top pick rating, NOT small overlap. That was last year and is old news.

The headline is correct.

For the new rating, to get a top safety pick (TSP) the vehicle has to pass all the crash test from the past AND the new small overlap test. All vehicles that are currently TSP+ will be renamed TSP; old TSP vehicles (that did not pass the small overlap) are now not recommended (like the Corolla currently)

To get a top safety pick PLUS, the vehicle has to have the TSP rating plus the overlap AND now anti-collision systems.
TSP+

Of course not everyone agrees that TSP+ (with anti-collision/prevention systems) are essential.

But many people (except rrocket) think the small overlap test is important (to get the TSP rating).

Thanks for clarifying before I could. That's exactly it.
