Travelling 3500 kms in NY; PA; WV/VA; NC--USA a great bargain!
« on: November 21, 2013, 11:13:24 am »
My wife and I just completed a very nice drive to Charlottesville, VA.; Williamsburg; OBX (Outer Banks); Raleigh and home.
The roads have beautiful scenery; few police; people who love to serve you; great choices and gas as low as $2.85/ US Gal. at a Costco.
My road costs just over $320. plus $20 tolls.   Average speed 78 kms/hr. and 9.0 l./100kms.   Lowest Hampton Inn $70/night
(4 nights).

Bought a new ski jacket (actually 3 combos or 3 jackets) from Columbia Outlet Store for $89.

The Colonial Parkway in Williamsburg is example of forward planning of a lovely drive through forests
between York & Jamestown bypassing city streets.  The ferry is free there.  Weather was luckily great.
Played golf 3 days.  The Newport News Mariners Museum was a great story of Yankees' Monitor turret ship for Civil War
victories.

Southern Living included some very fine meals of course.  Charlottesville and Raleigh highly recommended.

Nice drive this time of year for sure.  My BIL and sister are leaving for Florida tomorrow.  They usually take their time and stay off the main highways and they find it pretty easy going.  I agree about the service.  They really know how to provide good service for just about everything.  It's been a while for me, but I wouldn't do it in peak season ever again.

Sounds like a great trip.  Unfortunately not one I can/could take my wife on.  There's too many curves on the prairies for her...never mind something as awesome as NC... :'(  :P

Does she get carsick easily??

To the O.P., great trip!!
Lighten up Francis.....

Not so much car sick as turns simply make her dizzy, or off balance.  She's got a couple of fused vertebra in her neck and she attributes it to that.  Could be it.  She's fine if she's driving...but who wants to go to NC as a passenger?  Not I.

I feel for her...C7 for me....broke my neck at 18 and arthritis worked its way in and fused on its own approx 10 years ago.  PITN, but hasn't slowed me down...yet!  ;)

I give my wife credit for those long days like Raleigh to Grove City, PA. (but then she had an objective to get some last Outlet
Christmas shopping done).  Left at 8:00 A.M.--Shopped at 6:00 P.M. and then black country roads during rutting deer season to Iron Bridge Restaurant
--so 12 hours door-to-door.
