This.  They only go halfway up the dead pedal, so the slush and salt get behind them very easily.

Ordered a set for my wife's 128i (I've had them on previous cars).  They work well, except around the floor mounted gas pedal.  I'm not sure if there's any mat that can prevent spill into that area.
