Wow, this really sounds like a sea change in comparison to the last version!  I felt the last version was the least desirable of all the vehicles i test drove at the time.  This one definitely warrants a closer look for me.  I like that a vehicle this size can be efficient without being flaccid!  It shows what can be accomplished when a good drive-train is so carefully matched to a good chassis.  Well done!

The Sport (shorter wheelbase) version was nominated the number one mid-size SUV by Autobytel...Where's the review of the standard size Santa Fe?  I've got one with 14,000 miles on it...No problems..Looks and drives better than when I bought it, 7 months ago..Gets about 25 MPG around town...31-33 MPG highway...Hauls a ton of stuff, is smooth and quiet..All leathered and naved up...cost me a tad over 30 grand..That's a great car..
                  Thanks  Jack

There was a review a while back on the Sport model.

Seems like Hyundai got their fuel consumption numbers straight after the whole misrepresentation fiasco.

I don't see very many of these on the road.. although it's probably too early to tell, I wonder how its sales figure is like so far?

As of September, sales for the XL in Canada are 2,291 units vs. 20,221 for the 5 passenger version.

I agree with you on the Veracruz. Flaccid is a good word to describe it from what I remember of the test drive I took years ago. "Wallowing" is another. One thing you can say for Hyundai is that they seem to learn from their mistakes.

and quickly...it appears they take criticism seriously...it seems they focus on what reviewers are saying are shortfalls, and making improvements on them for the next version.
