Where would I even look to see if there was build up?  If they were doing only an oil change how would they know about the build up?  I don't notice any problems with the engine myself.

You can't see it without pulling off a bunch of parts, so they didn't actually see any evidence of carbon build up during the oil change. They are basically just selling it as preventive maintenance and I'm sure they try to sell it to everyone who walks through the door.

Kia recommends Top Tier gasoline. Failing that it calls for Kia fuel additive every 12,000 kilometers or 12 months. Perhaps you can pick it up from the parts counter for less than $65 and pour it in yourself. Some dealers call it Induction service @ $119.95. Ka-ching!

Hammy:  they,re trying to sell you a throttle body cleaning.  Standard service department upsell  If the motor is not stumbling on idle then you don,t need it.

This has nothing to do with the valves.

Ask them to show your where in your service manual its says to do a 'carbon cleaning', my ' 11 Sonata says nothing and its the same engine etc.
Never do anything unless the manufacturer recommends it. Anything else and they're just trying to milk you.
