Krowning a new VW?
« on: October 05, 2013, 07:08:01 pm »
The Golf Wagon comes with a 12yr unlimited distance corrosion warranty.  Normally I would get a new car Krowned, but it is a royal pain in the ass to detail with the oil slowly dripping, and it collects dirt in the cracks, which will show much more on a white car.

So with that good a warranty, should I bother?

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

How long will you be keeping it?

More than 8 years, yes.  Less,  no.

You're right about it being a PIA with a white car.

I did not with my white GTI   but I did ( and on the M-B and the new Fit ) have the clear 3M stuff on the nose.

VAGs galvanizing and primer stuff underneath certainly does keep the underneath looking perfect after 5 years...cannot speak for longer.

I wouldn't bother if you're keeping it less than the warranty period.   It is more important to fix paint chips as they occur.

I wouldn't bother given your past car ownership periods.  :P

I had a salesman tell me once that any aftermarket rust application is BS.
(his opinion)

he said due to the galvanized steel it's not needed.

he did give me the following advice:

1. wash your car regularly
2. make sure you wash and clean out any areas that collect dirt / leaves ect.  (around the wheels)
3. fix paint chips ASAP

I've had two vehicles done and many other I didn't.   I've yet to keep a car long enough to tell a difference.

I still think it's worth it and resale value will be enhanced I am pretty sure. I get both the penetrating spray for the seams and the thick surface coat and then forget about it. I would have thought that washing the car after every trip or so would be a pain too. I don't get the inside of the trunk done though. The stickiness is annoying and it has never been a problem. Keep you reciept and advertising literature in your car folder.
