The "new" Mercedes hexagon mats seem like they will last, though they've only got 15k on them. At least they look better than the old style mats from the CLK era which were actually pretty slippery....annoying.

The Acura OEM mats (had them on the TSX and now the TL) seem pretty darn tough. Sold the TSX at 96k with no apparent wear on them, though I never actually used the carpet ones. Always rubber.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

I have those MB 'hex' winter mats...seem good after one winter but the regular carpet mats are very thin and seem cheap to me.

For the trucks I've often ordered Husky moulded floor mats with good results (have them in the Sierra now). I've always thought W-tech were the higher end ones with Husky a little pedestrian.

The OE carpet mats I had were at least 1" thick and fantastic.  However, I guess that in constant dollars, both the C and E are far less expensive.

1" thick? Are you sure this isn't a Bentley?

The MB mats from the 80's and 90's were huge.  Of course, that thickness includes the backing, etc, but they were massively thick compared to anything I see today.

When we sold our 1990 190E 2.6 with 510K on the odo, the interior looked fantastic.  The carpet was in like-new shape and the plastic and wood was also like new.  The doors still "thunked" closed and there was not a rattle or squeak to be heard.  Every interior piece was of very high quality and assembled with perfection.  Of course, that car was nearly $50K in 1990, which would be VERY expensive today.  A C350 can be bought for the same nominal dollar amount, meaning it's significantly less expensive now.

In some ways the new C350 is more car, but in other ways, not even close.  The old 190E's body panels were much thicker, the paint non-water-based, and the interior parts made to last nearly forever.  The 190 had almost no "luxury" gadgets compared to now, with a very rudimentary (and crappy sounding) audio system, a clunky HVAC system, failure prone rising-mast antenna, and window-smearing mono-wiper.  The 2.6L inline six made only 158hp and was mated to a four speed AT.  It used more fuel than the C350 does despite making 50% of the power.

Want a car built to the same exacting standard that the old German cars were?  Prepare to pony up.  Check out a high-end Lexus' interior panel fit and construction.  It's a combination of modern production and "old world" assembly.  But, you're shelling out big bucks for cars like an LS or LX.

That's true john....I did the inflation calculation for my Mom's last 300E (1993). In today's dollars it was something like 92k new!

Remember too that the Canadian dollar was bouncing around in at the $0.65 level.

I remember the MSRP of my base 1992 Escort was $18k, $5k more than the same model in the US.

There is no question that competition has had an effect on prices though.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

My dad has the special fit molded ones for his Ridgeline.
got them 3 years ago.  the back seat floor mats have been absolutely amazing, my dad is always throwing tools back there.  The truck is well used and the mats see hard abuse.

but that's the only mats i've seen in action.
