Ive scared my wife a few times by driving down a mountain road at a "little" above the speed limit. For the most part though, I do all the driving and she tells me she likes driving with me because Im a safe driver.

That pretty much sums up mine as well, although the "scary" bits for her are when I am on a logging road.  She will quite often say "we can't go down there!  :o "  Oh yes we can!   ;D

She lets me do most of the driving, and certainly the longer hauls but it is good to know she is also a good driver, and as she does not drink, a full time DD  :D

Its weird. I bet if you ask her she would have the following criticisms

1. I take certain corners too quickly
2. I brake a bit too firmly
3. I accelerate too fast when merging
4. I drive too slow on city streets
5. I don't change to the "ideal lane" often enough
6. I always slow down when stuff is going on in front of me (ie: some guy slowing down to turn into a parking lot)
7. I don't accelerate enough when facing a yellow light

So its some combination of stereotypical cautious and aggressive. Personally I would reply, point by point:

1. the ones I do take like that are wide open and nobody is around, so taking the car to 6/10 who cares really
2. I brake firmly early on so as to give myself more margin
3. Better to get up to speed quickly, gives you more margin of error to merge
4. well yes, its city streets, why bother going 80 in a 60....speed traps and all sorts of unforeseen circumstances etc. This is Toronto after all.
5. some of it is laziness but every lanechange involves some measure of risk...for how much return really?
6. of course I slow down when stuff happens in front of me...a lot of the time she stays at her current speed and tries to "time" the moment the guy in front will get out of the lane. Its terrible really. I don't trust people, so I don't take chances.
7. I hate yellow light zoomers.

My criticisms of her would be that she drives too fast and she makes really strong assumptions about how other drivers will behave, what car will be where at what time etc. She takes a lot of chances IMO if cars don't move the way she expects, or worse if there is another one of her on the road at the same time. Its bad :P

Reminds me of a joke.

Wife: You look tired, would you like me to drive?
Husband: No thanks, I can sleep better here.

Keh-vin. From some long ago posts I have a suspicion that Julie is not a surgeon.

My spouse thinks I am a bad driver when I made her screamed in the car.

This is so true.  The worst drivers where I work have historically been from the Engineering Department.  The absolute worst was a former head of that department who otherwise had a brilliant mind.

Correct. I'm a specialist but not a surgeon (I faint in OR, not because of blood and guts, but because I can't stand up for hours on end). I mostly do management now though.

And yes, I'm super absent-minded.  :P

Edit: By the way, I was known for being very precise with my hands and instruments. I can have laser sharp focus at work, and for hours. But on the other, I am one of the most absent-minded people, by nature.

Surgeons have to be egotistical by nature.

Other specialists don't have to be right all of the time, as long as they're right more than GPs.

My wife thinks I'm a good and safe driver but she hates the way I drive  :) My wife drives an S2000 and is a good driver but I don't like the way she drives  :P

Which habit(s), specifically does each of you hate about the other's driving?

As for me and mine, we seem to have few, if any problems with the other's driving.  I think she is a bit careless when taking corners and cuts it too close to the inside edge of the road.  She has jumped the occasional curb with the expected results of damaged wheels / tires.   As well, parallel parking gives her issues.

OTOH, I get the impression that she thinks I drive too slowly at times.  Part of that is due to our respective vehicles.  For example, her Civic can take sharp corners at a higher speed than my Sorento simply due to size and shape.  Lower center of gravity affords more confidence in fast cornering.

Both my gf and I have our own cars and the basic rule seems to be:

When in her car, she does the driving unless she can't or won't.
When in my car, I do the driving unless I can't or won't.

I must say, it is nice to be a passenger at times, especially on long trips when sharing the load is essential.

I'm an aggressive driver while she is overly cautious. I think her situational awareness skills are poor and I am always coaching her on where to position herself while driving.

My situation is the same except when I tell Mrs. Railton where she should be positioning her car she tells me to Fack-off. ;)
So now I don't tell her how to drive at all. It's been working out fine since.

I figure that if I tell my wife how to drive, she'll tell me how to drive.  So I keep quiet.
