Getting all those Hondas, these trucks and a few M6 variants off the roads would be a mitzvah for GTA commuters I'm sure

What's the short answer for what leads Transport Canada to issue a recall? Is it the prevalence of specific events actually occurring from a defect or is it the prospect of something occurring, or what?

I've never been worked up about recalls but maybe I'm naive

Good question...could make for a good auto tech story.

I thought it was done on advice from the NTHSA in the USA. They keep TC advised on reported problems and TC may issue recalls on their own or just copy the US ones.

But an article with facts would be good.

I wonder if it's triggered by a statistically significant failure rate as seen in service departments, or the manufacture comes clean (which I doubt that), or investigations based on actual incidents on the road...but I doubt that too as it would take forever for issues to work their way through the system.

Certainly for the NTHSA  complaints from users are considered.
