Samsung lost a design patent law suit to Apple in California,

Rectangle with rounded corner .. and thin touch screen? is there any other way a touch screen phone can be designed?  i mean, BB tried with that torch..  that didn't work well.

1 billion awarded to Apple.

These patents are quite amusing, but big money for the lawyers.

I'm thinking of a device made from wood byproducts, with several layers all attached along one edge.  This device could have messages on one or both sides of each layer, and the user could flip through the layers to see the messages.

It would be energy efficient, not needing power, and portable, easily fit in a pocket.

My diesel car self-identifies as an electric vehicle.

Samsung created documents that show quite clearly they willfully and blatantly copied Apple. I find it funny when people clamour that this decision will hurt innovation... Samsung isn't innovating anything. They're just copying what Apple is doing. If anything this decision should encourage innovation, as other cell phone manufacturers start looking for real ways to differentiate their products.

(And for the record, despite my feelings about Samsung and my agreement with this decision, I remain a fan of the Galaxy SIII. It might copy a lot, but it's a good copy).

It's good that the Apple worshippers are lining up to defend their beloved.

I have a Galaxy III and I love it. I really don't see it as a copy of my husband's iPhone 4. In fact, I got an Android because I much prefer the Google platform to the Apple one.

Well, I think it's hard to say S Voice isn't a clone of Siri. But I actually agree for the most part. The S3 is a big improvement, and brings some really clever new features to the game. It's a great phone.

WTF?     just different nationalities, i would imagine!!

i don't see how samsung copied iphone.   basic touchscreen ...devices, have been around for long time.  anyone remember the PDAs?  i had a sony one, and it had touch screen.   looked basically the same as second gen iphone, just little larger.

truly innovative thing apple introduced with iphone was multitouch.    and that's NOT a "design" thing. it's hardware/software technology.

if you were a competent engineer/developer, and you were developing a touchscreen phone, ....that's the basic shape you would come up with, since we don't have holographic or weirdly shaped screen technologies yet.

The suit was about a lot more than the physical design of the phone.

It's true I don't know much at all about the details of the case, so..... maybe Samsung deserved to get their butt kicked.

Whatever happens, I hope the healthy competition - and choice - in the market place continues and this doesn't change that.

I'm amazed it was allowed to take place there, where everyone absolutely loves Jobs.  The decision was inevitable.

There are numerous other Apple vs Samsung and Samsung vs Apple lawsuits happening around the world.   Must be good times to be a patent and IP lawyer.  :)   Wonder if Samsung will try to appeal.

I just replaced my old Nokia with a Galaxy SIII. It's awesome.
