I understand the front styling somewhat, keeping with the new Mazda look but the rear looks antiquated, much like a 1998 2 door Ford Escort.
How is this going to compete as a 2014 with what's current , let alone coming up by 2014 ? Back to the drawing board Mazda !!!

I think the design is a great step forward based on these pics...will hold up nicely in the segment. Maybe my favourite. In sharp contrast I was driven around the other day in a mid-level new Camry and while it wasn't ugly only the dash had any style at all (not the centre stack, just the dash). Was comfortable and quiet enough (and big) but what a blah car. Mazda has the opportunity to be a style leader...they kind of are in several segments I think.

Other than the color I'm not seeing the similarity with a 2dr Escort...

I think it looks great, I'm liking the new look!

Not seeing the ZX-2 connection, but the new 6 is a great looking car.

All you have to do is flip the complete rear light assembly to see the similarity.
