He probably never broke 100kph but still very good.

I've done over 700 in one tank in my Altima 3.5 (Oakville to Burlington, Vermont). And that wasn't hyper-miling - it was just steady-state cruising at just under 120 kph). And I know I can do a good deal  better still in my Sonata - just haven't had the need to drive that far on a single highway trip yet.  Considering the massive power advantage of those two cars, and considerable interior space advantage as well, I'm not doing cartwheels over 980 in one tank for the compact Mazda.  It's good, sure, but not particularly noteworthy, IMO.

Well,  your Altima did have a larger tank by 21 L.

700 in the Altima (76 L tank) is only 10.8 L/100 km.

980 km in the 3 is 5.6 L/100 km.  I agree it's good but not spectacular, especially at an average speed of 71 km/hr.

Given the multiple filming stops shown I doubt they were driving the entire time. I'd reckon on 90kmh on the highways though, rather than 110-120kmh. If Mazda Canada are willing to provide a Sky-activ 3 and a couple of tanks of gas I'll test it out Saint John to Quebec City with 110kmh, a wife and a golden retriever.

If I'm in a rush, I can get from Vancouver to Edmonton in 12 hours, but I typically do it in 14-18 hours. Why rush it? Enjoy the scenery.

If you look at his gas pump, 56.011 L actually (in a 55L gas tank??) so that's 5.7L/100km.

if it is fall time and leaves are changing colour, in the Northumberland Hills,  some places are nice

the temps have been a bit warmer lately, so perhaps that has something to do with the fuel economy in my current tank of gas...currently sitting at 6.6L/100kms in 100% city driving (car is rated at something like 9.3)...i have been "driving" regularly (staying with traffic), but i am trying to see how good of a number i can get...i don't "race" the car from a start nor "Need for Speed" driving it in traffic...i'm pretty impressed at the result i am getting in winter (albeit a mild one so far), with winter tires on and city driving...i think my car is rated at 6.9 for the highway, so i am beating that number, in the city. 

speaking of good fuel economy, how about the Mustang V6?
