Nice!  But the car photos need some Sheltie goodness.   ;D

Lovely colour and lovely find.  Enjoy the hell out of it.

 The 10th anniversary was the first miata to have  a 6 speed. Love the blue top that matches the colour perfectly. You can't see that from the  pictures though. ;)

Beautiful find!  The colour is perfect, as is the car from what we can see in the photos.

I hope both of you enjoy the ride!

One of the more desirable NB Miatas, for sure!  Great find, congrats.  The Aisin 6 speed responds very well to the MotorCraft synthetic fluid, so if it's not shifting like butter, consider a change.

Shifts very nicely, but the shift pattern is so small I was  frequently missing shifts, going 2nd to 5th a lot as the gate for 3rd is narrow.   After driving if a  few days I'm ok now and getting used to it.
Realized I also haven't driven a manual in a couple of years.

I even have a brand new in box spare blue top that came with it. The one on it is showing it's age and has a small tear, might just repair it for now and put the new top on later.

Did it come with the blue boot ( tonneau)? A lot of people don't use them then the inside of the top becomes sunbaked.
When you go to replace the top do it on a warm day so it stretches on to the frame easier.

Yes, it has the blue tonneau cover.  Good point about baking the inside in the sun, thanks.

Very nice find!  Happy motoring.
There's an identical one a few minutes from me.  Has to be the same 10th anniversary 99.
I have seen him around here many times... not sure if he's modded it or not... it is facking quick.

So, I'm taking it apart to change the timing belt and coolant pump.

Might as well change spark plugs, so Miataphiles, what plugs work best?

Anything else while I'm in there?

Most miata nuts prefer the standard copper NGK plugs. I think they are called V power. Miata's of that vintage tend to eat plug wires as well. Try the NGK blue
wires. Since you are replacing the timing belt you may want to get a new valve cover gasket too. Sometimes you can clean the existing one up though. There is an article in the miata.net garage about where to apply the gasket sealer  for the valve cover gasket. If you want to know anything about miata's go to miata.net. It can be very informative.

Thanks, will order some of those NGKs.   I believe the kit I just received from Rockauto for $150 has the gaskets.

One of the things it didn't come with is an owner's manual.   I did manage to find a service manual online, but it's not the best either.
Anyhow, it's not rocket-surgery.  I found a great youtube video of what I want to do.

Yup, word on the 1.8L is to just use the copper NGK plugs.

Have a peek at the clutch slave cylinder.  They give out and start leaking, and then one day, no clutch.  I replaced mine in about two hours from start to finish including have the missus help me bleed the clutch.  If it looks wet at all, swap it.  It's about $30.

These cars have few problems.  Very few.

I had two Miatas and I was always told to change the water pump when you do the belt.

He said he was doing that....but he's calling it the coolant pump.

Starting point.  Needs a shampoo

$150 from Rockauto.

I made a crankshaft holding tool to help remove the crankshaft bolt.

Line up marks and notches and count teeth, etc.

It's all reassembly from here.

I must have done it right, I'm back at the cottage with it in one piece.  Still have some maintenance items remaining, but wanted it working for the weekend.
Seems to have more pep now, probably due to the old air filter being pretty plugged up.

Also installed new plugs and NGK blue wires
