The Scion FR-S concept car is designed to reclaim the 'sought after fun-to-drive quotient Toyota has been missing,' says James Bergeron.

The FR-S is aimed at performance drivers and enthusiasts who know they want a vehicle that is capable, fun to drive and practical.    End quote .

So why are there so many nay sayers about this car on this site ? Would you prefer to drive a Camry instead ?

Excellent question ajay.  I think "yes" is the answer to it...well either that or a Corolla.   ;D

hmm...looks like a Hyundai Genesis Coupe so they might be a few years late to the party with this style...it looks good (i am unsure of the rear end though), but i don't how much of a market there is for this kind of car...while they do "look nice", they aren't overly practical and are fairly expensive for what they do.

2013! Christ almighty, take your time Toyota...

I hope this car does well, I really do.  And in 2016 I might pick up a used one from the states, for about 25% of the Canadian MSRP.

Although I do wonder where the Camaro/Mustang/Genesis's will be by then development wise.

and SLOW.

Prices should be set below $30,000.

Perhaps an anniversary set of KEN and BARBIE dolls could be included to fine tune the marketing.  Because that is exactly the time of ppl you're gonna see driving these things ......

or six-speed automatic transmission that will include steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for ultimate control. [/b]

"Ultimate Control" ......  Oh ya, I'm feeling it already.  Saf PM ASAP, I need some pointers.

"He sees the vehicle placing itself in a category between lower priced competitors such as the Hyundai Genesis and Ford Mustang V6 and higher priced sports cars like the Nissan 370Z."

So he does name the GC and the Mustang as competitors but doesn't want to really compete with them? That's just brilliant.
And he shouldn't be mentioning the Z for too many reasons to list, but maybe its price tag is too irresistible for Toyota?  ::)

2 door, RWD, coupe/hatch style, with a 2.0L direct injection (maybe turbo), for less than US$30,000.

Sounds like direct Hyundai Genesis competition to me.

Has the Subaru version been confirmed to be RWD also?

Not when you can get the 2.0T for less than $20K brand new.  The Toyobaru is 50% more expensive.  I'd say it's more competition for the WRX et al, but for those not bothered about power but just wanting great handling and light weight, let's hope it delivers on those.

Maybe turbo?  Turbo it and you can charge 30K.

2011 Z in USA is $31, 200 or the manual shift.

Nodoy in the business understands this Scion BS.

 articsteve ,
I test drove a 06 Z a few years ago - the "sales manager" at Metro Toyota in Victoria said it was a $50,000 car when new  - as I was negotating the price down from $ 37,000 . As you well know, we get screwed on car prices here compared to the U.S.

The Mustang and Genesis are in a different category, apples and oranges but the NEW Z should be on a similar handling plane but priced higher - just checked - base model 370 Z price starts at msrp $ 40,898 Can.
So I guess it does or will set new handling limits in its price category afterall . No surprise to me .

We've got a long way to go on this one compared to the Elantra and Sonata thread count!   ;)

What a f&&king hot car. I'm glad Toyota is going to make this.

Sure it may not be the fastest car on the road, but damn it looks good.

Toyota needs some affordable mojo and they need it now.  Not in 2013.  In 2011.

I still think it'd be better placed as a Toyota and not a Scion... Still glad to see them trying something here. The key will be the handling and the weight. If they keep the weight down then the lower power engine will be no problem and the handling should be fantastic.

I do hope some of the styling influences other cars coming from Toyota. The current design language has been very iterative over the last several years but I think it's been played out and it's time for something a bit new. I like the queues on this car...I'd love to see nods to this car in the next Camry, Corolla and especially in the next Matrix. It works for other brands anyways.
