You should have done what I do in these situations: go to an estate auction. You get good stuff, old and solid, at good prices. Often with a dining room set it has barely been used.

You're right on that one. I've seen solid walnut or mahogany sets with 8 chairs go at auction here for as little $1,000-1500. In some cases they are "near antique".... pre WWII Gibbard for example.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Yes, lots of that stuff is available on Usedottawa or kijiji.  We looked, it's all FUGLY IMO.  yes it's all solid stuff, but it's so dated, no thanks!
