The RVR scores high with its easy-to-drive demeanour and fuel efficiency, but falls short when stacked up against its competitors, says Haney Louka.

Little mistake:

Only the front wheels are driven by the stick as only the CVT is available in combination with awd (sad).

I'd love to see a test of the fwd / manual version.  At 20-22k$, value is not bad IF the drivetrain becomes acceptable.  A non-enthusiast coworker tried a RVR with cvt, and found it atrocious.  He bought a more refined CR-V for RVR GT budget.

I was a passenger in a rented base RVR a few weeks ago and I honestly can't remember ever sitting in a vehicle with worse seats than this one, especially the rear seats. They are incredibly hard (like plywood-hard) and flat. Cheap cheap cheap.

i watched a review of it on Motoring TV a few months ago and the powertrain was slagged on there as well...i know cost is always a concern, but i think it would have been worth the extra $1-2k to seriously improve this vehicle...instead of being a contender, it isn't even considered.

You may not consider it, but quite a few people actually bought it. Check the sales numbers; they are pretty decent and they even topped some better regarded models.

With a decent powertrain this car would stand a chance. I've seen a few around here, but the engine is rough and woefully underpowered. An engine like that is never suited to a CVT. This drivetrain is bad enough in the Lancer - it's a shame they couldn't spend a little more to make a properly decent car, rather than a half-arsed product. Bringing over the 1.8 diesel from europe would be interesting...

Or slap their turbo on, even detuned from the ralliart.

I don't think any of the Mitsu vehicles have dual climate, which is a shame.

I have seen quite a few in the Toronto area and eastern Ontario.

Mississauga, ON – Aug 2, 2011. July was a sweltering month across the country including Mitsubishi’s sales for the month. Total year-to-date sales for Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) remain a buoyant 4.4% ahead of the same period last year. Sales for the month of July improved 5.1 % over June.

Of particular note is the SUV segment where July sales checked in 52% ahead of the same month last year bringing Mitsubishi’s YTD SUV sales to 7,654 units, an impressive 55.7% ahead of 2010. Continuing strong the RVR (451 units) and Outlander sales (522 units) fueled the gain and are keeping MMSCAN on the right track with a best calendar year to date.

They should make an EVO version of the RVR. Besides that, Mitsu is an average brand. I like the styling.
