Though more expensive than its competitors, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter commercial van offers better fuel economy, and a larger payload, says Paul Williams.

Fond, fond memories of belting around the UK in a high-roof, LWB Sprinter with the 109bhp 2.1 diesel engine. Even  driving it flat out I'd see 25-30mpg, if I was careful 35-40mpg. I'm not sure how much worse the v6 with an auto would be, but it's going to trounce the E-series and Express. If you are van shopping have a look at the useable space inside the e-series and express - then go look at a Sprinter. You can fit a standard pallet, you can stand up inside, the doors swing back 270 degrees and you can also "apparently" fit 30 soldiers in the back when you're in a pinch  :-[

I had a project for a sales course I took last year and I actually did a comparison between the Sprinter, Express & E-Series as part of the sales pitch to a business.  Even though the Sprinter starts in the 40ks, the price difference between it and the domestics isn't that much (unless they give you good incentives) and when you factor in the fuel economy, durability and capabilities, the Sprinter really stands out in the utility van class.

Not sure about the current version, but the first version offered through Dodge had horrible reliability issues.

An E150 cargo van starts at $32k, $10k cheaper than a Sprinter. The extended E150 is still $7k cheaper. For the same $42k that the Sprinter starts at, you can get a new 2011 cube van with a 16' body. Not sophisticated in the least, but fleet maintainers are all used to working on them and parts are pretty cheap. (The same can be said for the Savana).

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

They were in Toronto last week.
Saw them at the Ontario Place parking lot while on my way to Downtown TO.

MB Canada had conservative sales targets for 2010 (maybe because it was the first year).
2011 is much more aggressive, but I'm sure they will meet target.

I see Bell is using Ford Transat . I wonder if that is because of price?

I think it is due to size.

I see lots of Transits around town. The Canada Post has some, a dry cleaning company, the Salvation Army has at least one, a photocopier company has a few and one of the elevator companies.

We are kicking around the idea of getting one. They are so easy to adapt because of the high roof.

I see lots around here as well.   Not too expensive, good on fuel and of course... purpose built for the urban/suburban delivery/service jobs

Fedex has started running several around here. I was talking to the driver the last time he made a delivery to me and he was saying he really likes it.
