Test Drive: 2011 Infiniti M37S
« on: January 04, 2011, 03:05:34 am »

'The M37S' tighter suspension, low-profile tires and 4-Wheel Active Steering sharpen the M's reflexes, but at a tangible expense to ride comfort,' says Chris Chase.  Its Sport mode 'makes the transmission more eager to downshift and hold lower gears,' he reports.

Nice looking car but I'll never understand why they keep trying to put 4WS in sporty cars. I understand it in a pickup truck (and surprised it didn't do better there just for parking lot maneuvering if nothing else - though I seem to recall it costing a fortune - close to $5k if I remember correctly) but really why not just develop a better chassis?

I'd much prefer a vehicle with AWD than one with 4WS - whether I'm running a hot lap at a track or just driving down the freeway.
My other Honda is an MP4-31!

I disabled the Super-HICAS from my 300ZX-TT back in the day.  Was cheap, really easy to do and improved the transient response of the car.  But, the M employs a new system so I wonder if there is a way to mechanically disable it.

I appreciate the active noise cancellation system in the M.  It's interesting that the 3.7V6 is called smooth in the M37, but the same engine is called coarse and obnoxious in the 370Z and G37.  Perhaps they should install that noise cancellation in the Z and G too.

I hate all those features that you can get on luxury cars now that are really distracting or detracting to the driving experience.  People pay thousands of dollars for them only to turn them off and never use them.

Also, why can't engineers just tune a suspension properly like they used to and not have all these different suspension settings where often none is just right.
