Wing's review of the G8 had me a little nervous about the G8 in the snow. Last night the first storm of the year blew in. Nasty stuff this morning, the falling temp as the snow started created a layer of ice covered by about 10cm of heavy then light snow. The Continental ExtremeWinterContacts were beyond awesome. I passed a number of stuck FWD cars and a Porsche Cayanne on steep hills. The only place where RWD has an edge on FWD. Steering and stopping was impressive.

I don't know what Wing was complaining about, the Stabilitrac on the G8 was almost perfect. It allowed some waggle but keept the rear in check. I think downsizing the width to 225s may have helped as well. Just have to feather the threottle lightly, no stomping today.  Perhaps Wing drove a Subaru the day before?

Makes me curious how the Z4 will behave this winter. (I have tires)

I'm more worried about the low clearance than the drive wheels though.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

Datsun 510 with a hot-rod DOHC engine combined with the ice highway between Inuvik and Tuk taught me to drift better than any Fast and Furious movie-wannabe could ever dream of.

I'd love a modded Datsun 510....

My 510 with studded tires wasn't too bad, but I made sure I had a tow rope and used it a couple of times. With regular all seasons I remember having my college buddies jumping up and down in the trunk just to get me moving in an icy parking lot.

At least RWD vehicles now often have sophisticated anti-slip axles that give true 2WD. Those old ones went to 1WD pretty fast on ice.

That was the issue with the RX-8.  The rear suspension would drag through deeper snow/truck ruts

More than once I had to get a push from my friends to get my Mustang to move in the ice covered lot at high school.

I drove for Mother's Pizza when I went to college. Used THEIR Mustang (4 cyl of course) and Pony to learn how to drive RWD. Shocked that they didn't receive more phone calls about their cars going sideways down the streets.

Funny thing is all the drivers preferred the Pony over the Stang, much more fun to drive.

Didn't learn to drive in it, but I was forever sold on the merits of snow tires when I had my 4.0L Jeep Comanche 2WD pickup.  The All-Season Good Year's were totally hopeless in the rain, let alone snow, but putting 4 snows on it made such a huge difference it was hard to get the back end to step out and get a little drift action going...well, ok, it wasn't that hard... ;D   Traded it in for a 4x4 Ranger when I moved to Ottawa.

That Jeep was the most fun vehicle i've ever owned.
