Ultimate (Affordable) Dedicated Track Car?
« on: October 07, 2010, 04:13:16 am »
Just read an article about these guys...only about 1 hour from my house.  I must admit..this package is pretty darn affordable if you were looking for a dedicated track car and an Ariel Atom is out of reach.  And it weighs a mere 1100 lbs. with engine!  :o  Power comes from bolting in a Hayabusa engine which can be had for ~$2500. All told, you're in for ~$25,000 (kit comes complete minus engine and tires for $19,995 US)  This thing would be a hoot, and cheap to run!!  The light weight would be easy on the brakes, tires, etc.  Suspension and all geometry completely adjustable.  And the 'Busa mill is tough as nails and moddable.  Mr. Wing..this car has your name written all over it!!  The RCR Superlite Nemesis!!  http://www.superlitecars.com/nemesis_spec.html

Very interesting. Is it street legal, like the Atom?

Cool, still a little expensive but not bad at all!  I wonder if it would be allowed to run with sedans, usually open wheel and sedan are not allowed to run together and getting open wheel track time is nearly impossible.  This is kind of like a hybrid though.

Would this be more economical than a used Miata?  Would this be recommended for a relative track novice?

Oh gawd no, a Miata is cheap cheap cheap and much easier to drive I bet.  It's always easier to start off in a slow car.

I'd rather a Seven of some sort then at least you can drive it to the track and back. Seems a lot for a track only toy to me anyway.

A used Miata would be a better start - this thing is a hell of a lot more extreme.

FWIW, These are street legal in Michigan.

And yea, a Miata would be cheaper...but this car is an ultimate, hard core track weapon.  Laps quicker than a Ford GT.  So for the level of performance, grip,  chassis tuning capability etc...this is tough to beat.

... that is too fast for me. Will start with a slowww vehicle and more comfortable vehicle like an RX-8.

... is there a rotary shape LCD screen available on the market?  8)

My last track day with the RX-8 was great, music full blasting, and easy to carve thru the corners, better than watching TV and playing on the PS3, just as comfortable.

That price is probably double what I'd even consider for a 'track' toy if I were in the market for one.  I'd sooner look for a used WRX, GTI, Supra ect....something where parts would be relatively cheap and there would be lots of options for modding it the way I wanted it.  Would they be faster than this car, no - could they be equally fun, YES.  Heck, I'd even consider a used CBR/ZX6/GSX-R - they can be had for 3-5000 and would likely be equally as fast if not faster with few modifications.

And no, I don't care how much they cost, or how good they are on the track, I would not buy a Miata.

Hey I didn't know you'd driven a GT-R?   ;D
