Used Vehicle Review: Chrysler Sebring, 2007-2010
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:08:25 am »

A 'stunning' rate of depreciation makes a used Sebring sedan or convertible a cheap buy in the used car market, but a poor reliability record should give buyers pause to ponder, says Chris Chase.

What, no hand on heart declarations of the Sebring's unappreciated, underestimated
reliability?

Nobody has a great uncle whose Sebring went 700,000 km without issue?

No accusations that Chris Chase is a witch?

Let's hope these rolling blunders and the executives responsible for them have been left in the bin with the old Chrysler and that all the praise being heaped upon their new models is actually warranted.

Wow, a 2010 costs $16K! Not sure I've seen such dramatic depreciation before.

These are horrid cars, among other factors this and all progeny from the constantly recycled PL & LH platforms are the reason why Chrysler has been circling the drain for years.

My job has me out of town 3 months out of the year. As a rule I refuse any Chrysler product for a rental. They are unreliable, gas-guzzling, ill-mannered ergonomic nightmares.

I'd sure as hell rather have a 2 or 3 year old low kilometre loaded Sebring for around 10 grand than some 6 or 7 year old base Camry or Accord about ready to roll over the 160k mark.

First off, as a mechanic I will tell you these cars are very reliable ! I have seen more higher mileage Sebrings needing less repair than low mileage imports.

Remember most of these Sebrings never have a problem ..

The depreciation for Chrysler is misleading because the prices are done by an auction house, and the high mileage Sebring rental and fleet cars bring down the value for all of them.

Furthermore,Chrysler was the most profitable car company before Mercedes mismanaged them, not because of their product, their product was always good, thats why in Canada Chrysler is always the number 2 or 3 best selling auto company ! Funny they sure praise the new 200 ,and it just has a few tweeks from the old Sebring..

I do more repairs on imports with low mileage than Chrysler vehicles with high mileage ! Honda's timingbelt, waterpump and transmissions fail all the time.Toyota products are in need of engines at very low mileage,as is some Nissan 4 cyl vehicles..

@ Cory - you may have a point.  I'm not a mechanic, but I'd bet you could find one that says the opposite of you.  But...it still doesn't change the fact that the Sebring is UHG-LYYY! The new one may be garnering praise, but it surely isn't because of its looks.  The new interior, heck even I'll give them props for that.  Or the new engines.  Holy cow 286 hp?  (Right? Sorry, going from shoddy memory right now, don't feel like Google-correcting myself)  That's a ton of bhp in a car like that.  I grew up in 5.0 era when 225 was the cat's meow; now that's a lazy fat useless cat (I thought my 5.0 flew, guess not.  Kinda like watching hockey from the 60's - those guys would get hammered by most PeeWee teams nowadays)  Now, if only they'd update the looks to what (no, to EXACTLY what) the 200 concept was a couple of years ago, I think I might even look at a Chrys product.  The new Charger kind of appeals to me, or the HEMI Ram or new G/C...other than that, Chrys/Dodge doesn't have a lot that even makes me look at their lot on the way past.  I'd sooner drive my 11 year old Taurus for another 380,000km than buy or be seen in one of these as an owner.  I'd have to get a rental sticker on the back just to avoid some embarrassment. (my wife's cousin just bought one of these...instead of something from a whole fleet of other choices.  I almost threw up.  I couldn't even ask why without making it seem like I was talking down to her.)

The Sebring, like many Dodge/Chrysler products, belong only in a rental fleet. I mean, you'd have to say "no" to a long list of cars before settling on the Sebring........
