Though inventor John Sipe is generally credited with patenting tire sipes ' those tiny incisions in tire treads that help them grip the road ' it turns out that the word originated before John Sipe came along, says Paul Williams.

  Nice article..Thanks..I'm thinking...what are the odds of some guy named Sipe inventing the tire sipe ? I mean...I've never , before today, even heard of that as a persons last name..It's got to be a rare name...The evolution of words is a very interesting subject....and English is a very convoluted, and interesting language...Thanks again   dragonfly
